About this site

A stone bakehouse built by the Nederlandsche Zuid-Afrikaansche Spoorweg-Maatschappij (NZASM) during construction of the Pretoria–Delagoa Bay railway in the 1890s, part of the town's railway-era precinct alongside the historic tunnel and Five Arches Bridge.

Why it matters

Rare surviving example of NZASM railway-support architecture. The surrounding rail precinct anchors Waterval Boven's heritage identity and its potential as a rail-heritage tourism stop.
